Varitread stairs were designed by Central Scaffold (Midlands) Limited to overcome the problems associated with stair access onto tube and fitting scaffolds

Central Scaffold (Midlands) Limited are based in the West Midlands and operate with seventy scaffolders, working mainly for ‘blue chip’ companies.
All their scaffolders are directly employed and hold CISRS cards.

With the introduction of the Working at Height Regulations 2005, Central Scaffold’s customers were requesting stair access,
as an alternative to ladder access on their sites, in order to comply with these new regulations.
The only form of stair access available to Central Scaffold at the time were various system stair towers. These obviously worked well with their own matching
system scaffolds but created major problems when they were erected onto tube and fitting scaffolds. If you are a scaffold contractor you will understand the problems. ie: a confusing number of different components, landing heights at a different level to the working platforms, expensive to purchase and repair etc.

Central Scaffold (Midlands) Limited have teamed up with Ramsteel Tubes Limited to form a separate company, Varitread Limited, to develop and market the product.

Ramsteel Tubes Ltd is an importer of all types of steel tubes for end uses as varied as piling, agricultural equipment, furniture, fencing, lighting poles, cable reels, scaffolding, gas & water transportation and hand railing, to name just a few. They also import a range of scaffolding products, such as various types of system scaffolding, fittings, props, trench struts, transom units. Ramsteel also works with customers to develop a range of special products,
either  to the customer’s design or to Ramsteel’s own design

Ramsteel’s contribution to Varitread is twofold:

Firstly, their excellent contacts in the field of international materials sourcing have allowed Varitread to be manufactured abroad far more competitively than if it were to be made in the UK.

Secondly, Ramsteel’s contacts in the UK scaffolding industry are important in the marketing of Varitread.
